Sony Alpha A7R IV mirrorless camera Body
With this fourth version of the Sony Alpha A7R, with 2020 TIPA Award, and EISA Award, Sony has again implemented several innovations, but you immediately see the biggest loss: no 6K film. Something that the Panasonic Lumix S1H does have. You can film on this camera in a maximum of 4K UHD at 30 fps. But that doesn’t mean the battle is over. For example, the Sony A7R IV has a 61-megapixel 35mm full-frame Exmor R BSI CMOS sensor and a new, improved BIONZ X image processor. The camera comes with 15-stops of dynamic range, and it is possible to take up to 10 photos per second.
Improved sensor and processor
The sensor in the A7R IV sensor has been updated and uses a Fast Hybrid AF system with 567 phase-detection autofocus points. These points cover 99.7% of the height and 74% of the width of the sensor. In addition, there are 425 contrast detection points. This makes focusing even faster and more accurate. Don’t be put off by the ISO value of ‘only’ 100-32000. This can be expanded from 50 to 102400 ISO.
The BIONZ-X image processor has also been updated and is even faster. It is now possible to shoot up to 10 frames per second at full resolution, with a maximum of 69 consecutive frames. You have access to AF/AE. Thanks to its new design, the A7r IV follows the eyes of a human or animal and always keeps the subject perfectly in focus. The Eye AF works in real time during shooting and filming.
Pixel Shift 240.8 megapixel shots
As if 61 megapixels isn’t enough, you can take photos of 240.8 megapixels with the Pixel shift mode. This happens because not 1 but 16 photos are taken. You then have to merge these photos into one photo using the Sony Imaging Software Suit. The size you eventually get consists of 19009 × 12672 pixels. By using this mode, you not only get a bizarre number of details and the possibility to zoom in on the photo, the color, and contrast information is also richer. Therefore, the picture will look even better.
UHD 4K video and proxy video
When filming in 4K UHD, you have access to 15-stops of dynamic range with the option to shoot full-frame or in crop at APS-C format. It is possible to shoot in an HDR (High Dynamic Range) workflow. You have access to S-Log3. It is possible to record proxy images in addition to the 4K UHD. This makes it easier to quickly play back the footage for clients or sort out and edit in post-production without putting a full load on your computer processor. Naturally, S-log2, Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG) are also available on the A7R IV to support an Instant HDR workflow.
5-axis SteadyShot in-body image stabilization
The 5-axis SteadyShot image stabilization is incorporated in the body and works with 5.5 stops to absorb five different camera vibrations during shooting and filming. Use a lens with image stabilization, and you hardly need a gimbal anymore.
Digital Audio Interface for professional audio recordings
The Digital Audio Interface is available for the Sony A7r IV. You can use the Sony ECM-B1M shotgun microphone or connect the XLR adapter set so that you can use your own shotgun microphone.
Connectivity
