DJI announces Air 3 drone with double cameras and 46 minute flight time

Have you heard about the new DJI Air 3 drone? It’s just been announced, and it’s the fourth version in the Air series, following the Air, Air 2, and Air 2s. This one’s the successor to the Air 2s and comes with some wonderful upgrades.

The DJI Air 3 falls between the beginner-friendly Mini 3 drone and the more advanced Mavic 3 series. It’s perfect for serious photographers and filmmakers who want excellent quality without going all out for the Mavic 3. The big improvement here is the second camera. While the DJI Mavic 3 Classic and Mavic 3 Pro already have dual cameras, the DJI Air 2s only had a single one. But the Air 3 steps it up and becomes a worthy replacement for the Air 2s.

Now, get this: the Air 3 shares the 24mm camera from the DJI Mini 3 Pro and also the 70mm telephoto camera found in the professional Mavic 3 Pro. That’s quite a combo!

Double cameras in Air 3 drone

So, what’s under the hood of the Air 3 drone? It boasts two 1/1.3-inch quad-Bayer sensors with Dual native ISO support. With 48 megapixels, these cameras can shoot 4K slow-mo at up to 100fps or 4K HDR at 60fps. And if you want super slow-mo at 8x, switch to Full HD and record at 200 frames per second. There’s also a neat 2.7K 60fps option to avoid cropping.

The first sensor is a 24mm f/1.7 camera, same as the Mini 3 Pro, while the second camera sports a 70mm f/2.8 lens, giving you 3x optical zoom. It’s the first time this combination has been used on an Air-series drone.

Now, some filmmakers prefer a larger sensor over a dual-camera setup like this. So the DJI Air 2s might still stick around for a while, since it’s not necessarily a downgrade compared to the Air 3.

Longer flight times up to 46 minutes

The Air 3 comes with a whole new battery, boasting a capacity of 4,241mAh, which translates to an impressive flight time of up to 46 minutes! That’s 15 minutes longer than the Air 2s, and honestly, who could’ve seen that coming?

Plus, it’s got the latest video transmission system that provides a controller range of up to 20 kilometers when there’s minimal interference. The live feed sent to the controller is in 1080p at 60fps. That’s twice the range of the previous system!

Flying safer than ever

One really cool safety feature is the omni-directional obstacle sensors. The Air 3 uses dual fisheye lenses to look forward, backward, downward, upward, left, and right to spot obstacles in its path. And thanks to the APAS 5.0 anti-collision system, the drone will avoid those obstacles by flying around them or stopping altogether.

Of course, the Return To Home (RTH) feature is also updated, ensuring the Air 3 picks the best route to fly back home.

Now, keep in mind that the DJI Air 3 has a C1-rating, which means you’ll need to maintain a distance of 150 meters from people and buildings. It is mandatory to take an online and physical exam according to European drone regulations.
