Photos of the DJI Mini 3 have leaked, and it appears that we can expect the DJI Mini 2 successor soon. Based on the photos, we can already draw up several specifications.
The DJI Mini 3 would be a simpler version than the DJI Mini 3 Pro, which can film upwards. The Mini 3 is aimed at novice pilots and will replace the two-year-old DJI Mini 2. It’s @DealsDrone who got their hands on the leaked photos and can be trusted most of the time when it comes to leaked drone photos and data.
Leaked photos
If the pictures are correct, it appears that the Mini 3 has the same base as the Mini 3 Pro, which is a premium and compact drone that came out in May this year. A major physical difference are the two sensors that sit above the gimbal of the drone. These have different shapes and may indicate the lack of obstacle sensors. This increases the risk of accidents and crashes, but makes the drone a lot cheaper. The openings can be used to cool the drone in the front, instead of at the back, like the Mini 3 Pro does.
Almost the same design
Other than the other sensors/ventilation inputs above the camera, the design of the Mini 3 appears to be the same as the DJI Mini 3 Pro. We can expect a drone that will weigh less than 250 grams. This ensures that the drone is labelled as a consumer toy, and therefore you do not have to get a pilot’s license. In addition, the rules are less strict for drones that weigh less than 250 grams.
Entry-level drone for entry-level price
The DJI Mini series is always affordable and therefore intended for novice pilots. But also pilots who do not need professional functions can use this model well. To ensure that the drone remains affordable, some properties are usually compromised.
The DJI Mini 3 Pro has 150Mbps video, obstacle sensors and D-Cinelike color profiles. The DJI Mini 3 will most likely not have these functions. We also see the same camera module as on the Mini 3 Pro and that could mean a 1/1.3-inch sensor with f/1.7 aperture.
What will the DJI Mini 3 Cost?
Currently, the DJI Mini 3 Pro costs $763 without a controller, $630 with the standard RC-N1 controller and $909 with the DJI Smart controller. These are still firm prices and if that is too expensive for you, you can always look at the cheapest DJI Drone; the DJI Mini SE.
It appears that the price of the DJI Mini 3 will become pricier than the original price of the DJI Mini 2. This has everything to do with the state of the world and that almost all prices have gone up. You can currently purchase the DJI Mini 2 for €499.
It is still interesting that beginner drones in particular do not have obstacle sensors, but these are valuable and DJI probably sees no way to save costs on another point.
