With the Canon EOS R100, Canon has launched an entry-level mirrorless camera that should convince smartphone users to use a larger system.
The Canon EOS R100 is intended for smartphone users who expect better quality from their camera and do not want to pay the top price for it. Weighing 365 grams, the EOS R100 is the lightest camera in the EOS-R series and uses a sensor that is 4x larger than that of most smartphones. A bigger and better sensor always means a better photo. With a price starting at $479.00, the camera is also very affordable. The EOS R100 has been positioned below the EOS R50 by Canon. The EOS R100 can be compared to the Canon EOS 2000D SLR camera.
For photographers on a budget
The EOS R100 has an APS-C Crop sensor with 24 megapixels, which is more than enough for printing large format photos. With this sensor, you are also assured of high image quality. Because it is a budget camera, the EOS R100 does not have a touch screen and the screen cannot be tilted. However, the mirrorless camera’s menu is simple and easy to use and helps the photographer to take sharp pictures.
Creative assistance
The Creative Assist feature on the EOS R100 helps you quickly adjust contrast, brightness and even background blur. As we said, it is an upgrade of your smartphone, and it usually has the same capabilities in the phone.
Dual Pixel autofocus
Although it is a budget camera, Canon does use their original Dual Pixel Autofocus system, which recognizes faces and eyes. In addition, the ISO values can be set from 100 to 12800, and you can take up to 6.5 photos per second. Which is more than enough for action shots.
Filming in 4K
The entry-level mirrorless camera focuses mainly on taking photos, but if you still want to make a video, you can do so in 4K 25fps. While making 4k film, a 1.55x crop is applied and the Dual Pixel autofocus does not work. In Full HD, 60 frames per second are possible, while 120fps slow motion is possible in 720p.
Hybrid Auto
The Hybrid Auto function can be compared to ‘live photo’ on a smartphone. When you take a photo, a video of 2 to 4 seconds is also recorded. This way you also have a live moment of every memory.
