It is almost certain that the Nikon Z8, with 45 megapixels, will be released during the online Nikon event on May 10.
Why is it almost certain? Because Nikon’s ‘Are You Ready?’ (are you ready?) event has on May 10th. Although Nikon doesn’t specify which product this is for, it seems to us that Nikon only throws out a teaser like this when it comes to a major product. We think the Nikon Z8.
Countdown to May 10, 8AM:
Stacked 45MP sensor and 8.3K film
It is the usually reliable Nikon Rumors that has been able to extract information about the Nikon Z8. For example, there will be a 45.7MP Stacked sensor in the camera with which it is possible to record 8.3K 60fps film.
Smaller body
According to the source, many features will match those of the bigger brother Nikon Z9. A big difference is that the Z8 is a lot smaller. For some users, the biggest drawback to the flagship Z9 is its size. At 144 x 118 x 83mm, the size of the new mirrorless camera will probably be closer to the size of the Nikon Z7 II.
RAW and JPEG burst photography
With the fast image processor, it would be possible to shoot 20 RAW images per second, while up to 120 are captured in JPEG format when a maximum shutter speed of 1/32000 is used. The Z8 would only have an electronic shutter and thus let the mechanical shutter slowly but surely die out.
HEIFF (H.265) photos
The HEIFF format is photos with 10-bit and a better compression of JPEGs. Although the HEIFF files are smaller in size, they contain more information than JPEGs.
Image stabilization
While recording 8K 60fps or oversampled 4K material, 5-axis internal stabilization is available. This stabilizes up to 6 stops, which is of course useful when filming handheld or when shooting with slower shutter speeds.
Good in low light with many focus points
The sensor uses 493 autofocus points, and these use Nikon’s latest subject-tracking technology. When it gets darker, the ISO can be increased from 64 to 25,600. On the side of the camera are dual card slots where CFexpress and SD cards are supported.
